The case for a longer lunch

Why the best afternoon never watches the clock.

The case for a longer lunch
SOFFRITTO / NOTES FROM THE TABLE

Some meals announce themselves as occasions. Others become one quietly, somewhere between the second plate and the decision to order another glass.

Let the table set the pace.

A longer lunch gives everyone room to arrive. Conversation wanders. Someone remembers a story. The next course turns up when it is ready, not when the clock demands it.

Our favourite tables are never perfectly arranged. They are full of plates being passed, a little bread left to share, and people who have forgotten to check their phones.

There is no better ingredient than time together.

Stay for dessert. You can decide what happens after that.

ONE MORE THING

Everything is better when it is shared. Pass the story along.

An aperitivo at the bar
THE CONVERSATION CONTINUES

Another glass.
Another story.
